Mason is taking part in a Turing Scheme-funded sports coaching project in Aruba, gaining experience across several very different environments on the island.
At Unistar, he coaches an Under-12 football team, helping young players develop their skills while strengthening his own coaching and communication abilities. He has also been working as a lifeguard, developing essential observation and communication skills in a completely different setting.
Another important part of Mason’s project has been supporting sports sessions at KIA, Aruba’s correctional institution, working with different groups of inmates and using sport as an opportunity to connect, exchange skills and learn from one another.
In this video, Mason takes us through his different activities and explains how working with people from different backgrounds and languages has helped him develop his confidence, communication and coaching skills.
Project co-funded by the #TuringScheme programme of the UK government with the support from @turcostaposibel.
